The Ethnographic Route: From Economy to Politics

Anthrobreakfast with Theo Rakopoulus

For the fourth segment of Anthrobreakfast SAPU presents Theo Rakopoulus as guest speaker!

Theo Rakopoulos is an associate professor at SAI. His work explores themes in economic and political anthropology, including community boundaries, their transgression, and the grey zones they create.

In this Anthrobreakfast, Theo will talk about ethnographic journey through the notions of boundaries and separation, from mafia/antimafia, silence/talk and other bounded fields in Sicily, to exploring sovereignty, citizenship, and decolonization in the divided island of Cyprus. But it is also a talk on how an economic anthropologist gradually moves into political anthropology.

For more on Theo and his research, visit his academic page.

The breakfast will take place on March 7th at Georg Sverdrups Hus, store møterom (behind the cafeteria, second floor) early in the morning from 09:15 to 11:00 AM.

Anthrobreakfast is an event run by SAPU where a member of the Department of Social Anthropology (or other affiliate departments) presents their current research interests and an overarching discussion on modern anthropology. It is a casual event where students can hear a short 30-45 minute presentation, discuss, and socialize with each other as well as the speaker. It’s a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students and professors.
